Community Safety

The reason Covid Chemistry exists is to help you develop closer relationships (particularly romantic ones) with others that are not willingly spreading Covid. This site is intended for the use of individuals over the age of 18, who believe that everyone should be protected from Covid infections. We believe that we keep us safe.

Let us define what "safe" means here and discuss the ways you can keep yourself safer while using this site. We will be active in responding to evolving needs as they arise.

Move at the speed of trust

Don't rush into anything on here, meaning please be careful when interacting with others that you don't know. Start slow and always trust your gut if something does not sit right in an interaction with another user. It is better to take more time to establish an in person connection with someone you met online, and we suggest starting with the lowest risk contact risks (messaging on here) before giving out personal information to one another like cellphone numbers. There is never a complete guarantee that can be made that other people will be safe to be around or not cause harm, just as it is in our everyday interaction on other websites and spaces. However, we urge you to lean on others (any other relationships with trusted folks) to give opinions, your intuition, and us (feel free to report, block, or message us if something ever seems off).

We will talk more about the practical steps to take to report unsafe or potentially problematic behavior from users on this site, as well as how to keep yourself as safe as possible should you decide to feel ready to meet someone you met here in person in the future.

User names

Please exercise caution when it comes to identifying yourself online. We specifically do not ask for your full name to give you the ability to only use your first name or a pseudonym if you wish.

Be transparent about your precautions

Be transparent with others about what Covid safety means for you and what your boundaries are around covid protections. If you are exposed to Covid more frequently than you let on or do not mask consistently with the best available protection, it is not excusable to withhold this information from someone who is considering meeting you in person. Anything you do not fully disclose about your covid practices puts others at risk. If and when you do decide to meet someone in person, please be transparent with them about what precautions you have been taking or not taking.

When meeting someone in person, please consider masking with high quality masks in a public, outdoor space and taking Covid tests ahead of meeting. We know that everyone's situation is different and there are very real financial barriers for folks to protect themselves from Covid (masks, tests, and online workplace/schooling options are most available to those most privileged). The most important thing is to be honest and for each person to give their earnest best to protect against spreading covid to others.

Also keep in mind, that consent is a verb. People are free to change their mind if they're no longer comfortable with a situation, and it's important to respect that.

How to block or report a user

If you feel that a user is violating our community safety policy or any of our other policies, please report them to us. You can do this by visiting the profile of the user and clicking the "Report" button. You can also block users with the "Block" button in the same place. We will review any reports as soon as possible and take appropriate action.
